The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America will host a free workshop for Section 8 holders who want to become homeowners.
NEWARK, NJ — Are you a Section 8 voucher holder looking to take a step towards becoming a homeowner? An upcoming public workshop in Newark might provide the kickstart you need to make it happen.
The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA) will host a free workshop on Saturday, Feb. 22 at The Waterfront, 2 Grafton Avenue.
There will be two sessions. The first will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The second will take place from 2 to 6 p.m.
According to a news release, topics will include:
- Learn how to transition from renting to homeownership
- Understand how Section 8 vouchers can be applied toward mortgage payments
- Receive expert guidance on financial preparation and the homebuying process
Participants can also learn about NACA’s Homeownership Through Public Housing Assistance program, which offers a way for Section 8 holders to use their voucher to purchase a home with NACA’s “Best in America Mortgage,” which features:
- No down payment
- No closing costs
- No mortgage insurance
- No fees
- Below-market, fixed interest rates (30-year fixed mortgage rate is 5.875% as of February 18).
People can register for the workshops online at www.naca.com. Walk-ins are also welcome.
“Homeownership should not be out of reach for hardworking families, including those with Section 8 vouchers,” said Bruce Marks, CEO of NACA.
“Through our partnership with the Newark Housing Authority, we are providing an unprecedented opportunity for voucher holders to break free from renting and build generational wealth,” Marks said.
