Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA) and its partners will hold a drawing to give away a newly constructed house to a family under the Black Belt Community Foundation’s (BBCF) Head Start program serving Dallas County.
NACA and the BBCF will be joined by its partners, the City of Selma and the Selma Housing Authority (SHA), for the drawing tomorrow on 1425 Washington Street at 10 a.m.
“On Friday, we are overjoyed to celebrate not just a change of address, but a new beginning filled with hope and opportunity. Every family deserves a place they can call home, and together, we are making that dream a reality,” said SHA CEO Kennard Randolph.
The house will go to one of 25 families that have proven financial hardship and lack of stable housing, said an announcement from BBCF.
“At the Black Belt Community Foundation, we believe that every child and their family deserve a safe, stable home to grow and thrive,” said BBCF President Felecia Lucky. “This home giveaway is more than just a house—it’s a foundation for hope, opportunity, and a brighter future.”
“Through our game-changing and life-changing partnership with the Selma Housing Authority, we are honored to support a Head Start family in overcoming financial hardship and gaining the housing stability they deserve. We look forward to celebrating this life-changing moment on February 28th and uplifting our community together.”
This will be the second drawing by NACA and partners. The first house was given away in 2024 to Tamicka Newberry and her family after their home was destroyed in a tornado.
“We are proud to partner in revitalizing this tornado devastated community in Selma with high-quality, affordable homes—something many thought wasn’t possible,” said NACA President Bruce Marks. “NACA is committed to making this the new standard for Selma and communities across the country.”
